Join SEPA Online to learn conversation skills in Spanish through culture!

SEPA Online is a program that provides an opportunity for students in Kindergarten to 5th grade to build a foundation in the Spanish language and an understanding of cultural diversity.

Classes begin in February 8th

Online classes are geared to the appropriate placement of our students based on their Spanish language abilities and goals. Students are evaluated at the beginning and end of each semester with an interview. The interview provides a functional perspective on the student's Spanish language abilities and helps identify areas of focus. With small class sizes, our instructors tailor their interactions and lessons to the levels of each student.

This course provides a fun, interactive experience for a student's first exposure to the Spanish language. The content for each unit is based on an authentic story, myth or legend from the Spanish-speaking culture.

These students can recognize general words and expressions related to themselves or their families; they have a minimal understanding but may not speak it.

Maintain and close simple face to face conversation on topics that are familiar or of personal interest. Can repeat back part of what someone has said to confirm mutual understanding. Describe, able to start a basic conversation.

Students can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly.

Frequently asked questions

Is this program also aimed at students who are in bilingual schools or have been exposed to immersion programs?. How can I benefit from this program?

Yes, this program also applies for dual immersion students. Students find in SEPA a perfect way to practice their speaking and listening skills. Also, they love to learn about other cultures while they do small activities or projects. This is a space where students can discuss a number of topics, give opinions, learn and apply what they have learned at their regular school.

What do you mean about Traveling virtually to many different countries?

We teach the Spanish language through culture, so children will explore different Latin American countries, while learning about traditions, geography, art, and stories from those countries.

What are the methodologies that you use?

We use TPR, Total Physical Response. We use the natural approach by reading children’s Spanish literature and learning about Latinamerican culture; being consistent with routine and structure.

What types of things are done in class?

Classes are enriched by activities including songs, games, arts & crafts, story telling, science experiments and activities that require movement.

Where are the classes held?

Classes are held through the Zoom platform. Duration of 30 minutes, twice a week.

When do the classes take place and how long are the classes?

Classes are twice a week after school hours for 30 minutes each. The program is 10 months long and is made up of two semesters. September-January and February-June.

Do I need to download anything?

Yes, you will need to download Zoom.

Why does my child need to take an interview?

This program is designed for children with any Spanish language ability, regardless of whether they have had exposure to Spanish before. The interview allows us to get to know your child and provide a functional perspective on their language level so that they are placed in the appropriate class.

How does this interview look?

The interview takes about 10 to 15 minutes. We start by having a brief conversation, asking personal questions in Spanish to the student to know their Spanish speaking background. The questions we ask depend on the student's background, so we can ask the student a few other things to do, read a short paragraph, describe a picture or share an experience in Spanish.

How can I make sure my child is in the right class?

After the interview we review the student’s Spanish abilities and place them in the class that’s a best fit for them.

Is there a sibling discount?

Yes, we offer a 5% discount for siblings.

What does the schedule look like?

Classes are 30 minutes long after school hours. Classes usually start with greetings and then continue with quick games, vocabulary review, exploring a country, and hands- on activities. Activities vary and depend on the class and students' needs.

My child is 4 but will be turning 5 by the start of the program, can I register him/her?

Yes, you can sign your child up for an interview and we will let you know what level they can be placed in.
