ISLA PADRES
ISLA PADRES CON VOZ is an entry level 9-week program where parents meet once a week. This program is open to the entire community and lasts for a semester. Parents learn how to advocate for their children in schools, about systemic barriers in the US, and how to create an advocacy plan. Additionally, it focuses on empowering parents to utilize their voices about their rights and those of their children in schools.
Our Work
ISLA Padres is a foundational 9-week program for parents, open to our community in general. It takes place once a week over a full semester (Spring and Fall). We aim to provide parents with valuable information, resources, and support. We focus on enhancing parenting skills, fostering a sense of community, and sharing relevant resources that serve as a guide. ISLA Padres is designed to create a structured and interactive space where parents can learn, connect, and grow as a community. Some of the activities and knowledge participants can gain include:
Parenting Skills and Education:
Techniques for more effective communication, positive discipline methods, child development, and fostering healthy relationships.
Support and Networking:
Creating a supportive environment where
parents can connect, share experiences, and build a network with others facing similar challenges. These activities cultivate a community space that reduces feelings of
isolation.
Resource Sharing
Access to relevant resources such as educational materials, books, digital platforms, or community services that serve as tools for parents, caregivers, and guardians.
Guidance from Professionals:
Guest speakers, experts, and professionals in areas such as child development and
psychology provide valuable information and answer participants’ questions.
